The TLK initiative, funded by the Soros-Kazakhstan Foundation is a three-year enterprise designed to spread the idea and practice of 'non-positional teacher leadership' to the whole education system in Kazakhstan.

A team of 32  facilitators were inducted in August 2019 and throughout this academic year, have been leading school-based groups in Nur-Sultan, Koksehtau, Almaty and Taraz. In these groups, facilitators have enabled a total of 180 teachers to exercise leadership.  Regional Network Events both face to face and virtual have been tremendous successes.  Teachers have valued the opportunity to come together as a community to share knowledge and practice and leadership.

On 15th June, Gulmira Qanay hosted the two day TLK
virtual international conference where participants from all the regions as well as members from our sister international networks were able to both celebrate their achievements and continue to inspire each other with the common pursuit of wanting to improve the quality of learning for children and young people.  Despite the coronavirus pandemic, teachers have been relentlessly creative and resourceful in embracing the challenges and opportunities remote learning has provoked.  We look forward to planning Year 2 of the initiative.
